For this assignment, you will record a video responding to questions related to a few scenarios. Be sure to thoroughly answer the question, presenting an explanation for how learning is occurring in each scenario and identifying the components of the applicable learning theory in your discussion.
Scenario 1:
It's spring in North Texas and it has started to rain. There is a bright flash of lightening and the thunder that follows is sudden, loud, and strong enough to rattle the dishes in your cupboard. Your dog jumps up from the floor. After a minute of pacing, it lays back down. Several minutes later, the lightening flashes again and, before the thunder hits, your dog immediately jumps up.
- Based on what you have learned from the text and this week's videos, explain what has happened in your own words. Within your response:
- Identify the learning theory that best fits the scenario and the theorist associated with it.
- Identify the components of the learning theory (e.g. identify the stimuli and responses, etc.).
Scenario 2:
Your friend comes over to visit you and brings her two-year-old brother. He is playing in the room and toddles over to your guitar. He accidentally bumps the strings and they make a loud sound. He jumps, but then reaches out and starts touching the guitar. After a moment, he brushes the strings and makes the sound again. He doesn't jump this time, but laughs and touches the strings again…
- Based on what you have learned from the text and this week's videos, explain what has happened in your own words. Within your response:
- Identify the learning theory that best fits the scenario and the theorist associated with it.
- Identify the components of the learning theory (e.g. identify the stimuli and responses, etc.).
Scenario 3:
You sign up online for a yoga class. You have never taken a class before and the studio is new to you. You arrive at the studio, walk into the foyer, and don't see anyone at the reception desk. You do see several people sitting down and taking off their shoes. Another person is putting their shoes in a cubby under the bench where she is sitting. A barefoot man stands up and walks over to a wall of shelves and pulls out a rolled up mat and two foam blocks. He then walks to a doorway, pauses briefly, bows slightly at the hip, and disappears into the next room. The other people in the foyer put away their shoes, grab mats and blocks, bow at the doorway, and enter the studio. You sit down, take off your shoes, place them under the bench, grab a mat and two blocks, pause at the doorway, bow slightly (though you feel a little silly), and walk into the room beyond.
- Based on what you have learned from the text and this week's videos, explain what has happened in your own words. Within your response:
- Identify the learning theory that best fits the scenario and the theorist associated with it.
- Identify the components of the learning theory (e.g. identify the stimuli and responses, etc.).
